#PLATEFORAMATE

Through a shared love of food, Plate for a Mate brings people together to raise awareness and vital funds for charities tackling the most pressing social issues that Australians face today. Plate for a Mate was founded in 2020 as a response to the food insecurity crisis of the COVID-19 lockdowns and has grown to become one of the most recognisable culinary fundraising brands.

THE STORY SO FAR

Plate for a Mate brings together businesses, brands and celebrity chefs to cook up a lasting difference and bring warmth to people’s lives. So far, we have supported these key areas:

  • Food insecurity, and OzHarvest food waste initiatives during COVID-19 lockdowns.
  • Mental health research in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic with The Black Dog Institute.
  • Rural community support across Australia during the unprecedented natural disasters of ‘21/’22.

OUR CAMPAIGN FEATURED IN

OUR IMPACT

In just three years, Plate for a Mate has become a leading force for getting good food to vulnerable people. With resources more limited than ever, we teamed up with OzHarvest to assemble twelve of the nation’s favourite chefs and foodies to craft delicious content and provide 300,000 meals for Australians experiencing food insecurity.

Plate for a Mate continues searching for new ways to treat and prevent conditions like anxiety and depression by raising much-needed funds for The Black Dog Institute. To date, we have raised over AUD 150,000 and with five cents from every bottle of Norco Milk sold going to The Black Dog Institute, we aim to double that amount in 2023 alone.

CHARITIES WE SUPPORT

Black Dog Institute

The Black Dog Institute was founded in 2002 and affiliated with UNSW and Prince of Wales Hospital. Depression is sometimes referred to as the ‘Black Dog’ and like a dog it needs to be embraced, understood, taught new tricks and ultimately brought to heel. The Institute addresses new challenges and opportunities in mental health, investigating mood disorders and new ways to treat and prevent conditions like anxiety and depression.

OzHarvest

Founded in 2004 by Ronni Kahn AO, OzHarvest had humble beginnings starting with a single van in Sydney rescuing food and delivering it to local charities. Since then, it has become a leading food rescue organisation on a mission to ‘Nourish our Country’ by stopping good food from going to waste and delivering to charities that help to feed those in need. Their team inspires and educates Australians about food waste, food security and sustainability to create a sustainable food culture.
